"We" (and by we I mean me and the little person who just turned 2) have upped the record to three nights slept through in a row. Unfortunately last night was one of them, but not until much whining and sobbing were done and several downright dirty "you are the meanest mommy on EARTH" looks were thrown.
To which I said, "You're tired - go to SLEEP." Then I rolled over with a magazine and pretended to ignore said little person who whined and fussed a bit more, then gave up and went to sleep.
If nothing else, my philosophy that he was lonely and just wanted me in the room has kind of worked out for the both of us. I lay in bed and read until he falls asleep. He's not alone, and I'm working through the magazines I sent over here to read upon my arrival. Just not quite in the manner I had planned. Ah well.
To those who left comments of support and suggestions: thank you! I had tried everything already, including letting him sleep in my bed a few nights. The problem with that is that a toddler and a mommy do not fit super well on a twin bed. The toddler fits great - he sleeps wherever he wants and is content to roll about in his sleep and is perfectly cozy.
Mommy, however, still gets no sleep. So that idea went the way of the goonie bird. I'm not against a family bed; but it only works for me when I'm at home in my queen sizer. I'm a light sleeper anyway. This effort made me a virtually no sleeper.
Oh well. We'll be home soon. THANK GOODNESS.
PS Am I the only mom who was a little bit teary when she watched her toddler fall asleep to the bangs and booms and kablams on the night of the 4th and thought, "Wow - that doesn't even bother him!" and then realized there are children in other parts of the night that fall asleep to gun shots and bombs blasting many, many nights of their lives?
PSS I've been reading JWR's Patriots in bits and pieces. I'll have a review of it for you all when I get back home...but for now, I will say it's definitely decent. A little too detailed when it comes to arms and such - I'm sure my hubby will love the details and pick everything apart. Me, I'm pretty good with "He had a shotgun. He used it on the bad guys. Graphically. Boom. No more bad guys." Well.... I'm not quite that Neanderthal but I don't need to know when the gun was purchased and why and what it works with and doesn't and so on and so forth. I skim those parts. I admit it. I just ask my husband what we need and put it on the list when it comes to calibers. ;-)

Very glad that you are having a good (if sleepless) trip home, but will be glad when you're posting regularly again. We miss you! :)
Well, my Princess is 18 months old and will not sleep through the night. No one told me about this part of parenting before! sheesh! When will I get a full nights sleep? :) BTW, what is a goonie bird? :):):)
TexasRed: thanks!!! I miss you guys too! It'll be good to be HOME.
LaVonne: goonie bird is basically my mom's word for a dodo bird - I don't know if there's really a real "goonie bird". In other words, something that is extinct now. LOL
As for sleeping through the night, up until this trip all my kiddos have been good sleepers. My daughter started sleeping through the night - albeit late at night - at about 2-3 months. My son was a little later than that...but still was doing it straight thru by 6 months or so. I am just hoping that he'll go back to it when we get home and he's in his own surroundings again. *crossing fingers*
